How Parents Can Cultivate Acceptance

1. Educate Yourself

• Learn about ADHD as a neurodevelopmental disorder.

• Understand that ADHD is highly genetic, often present in family
members, and affects brain function related to planning, focus, and
emotional regulation.

2. Adopt a Growth Mindset

• View ADHD symptoms as challenges to manage, not flaws in your child’s character.

• Focus on skill-building and progress, not perfection.

3. Separate the Behavior from the Child

• Recognize that difficult behaviors are symptoms of ADHD, not personal attacks or intentional defiance.

• Example: When your child forgets their homework, it’s an issue with memory and task management, not laziness.
